What We Do

Through sponsorship, refugees who are fleeing conflict and persecution are brought to a safe and secure country like Ireland, where they are fully supported by the local community.

Fáilte Cahersiveen Resettlement Sponsorship group aims to celebrate and enhance cultural diversity in the town by welcoming a refugee families who is seeking safety to join us so that we can grow and prosper together in South Kerry either through Community Sponsorship Scheme or through family reunification .

Giving Céad Míle Fáilte to our new friends

NASC  is our Regional Support Organisation.  It provides guidance, training and supports to our group.

Our main goal is to welcome, resettle and support one family at a time seeking refuge from war and enable them to build a new life here in Cahersiveen. If a family is coming in under the Community Sponsorship Scheme, we as a group must raise a minimum of €10,000 per family. This sum is determined by the Department of Justice and Equality.

We welcomed our first family in November 2021 and our hope and aim is to resettle 5 families over the next 5 years or as soon as we hit our fundraising targets. We are a voluntary group so all funds raised will go towards meeting the needs of the family and achieving our goal. The money raised will be used to secure housing and cover other essential costs of resettlement.

The families have travelled varying journeys from different regions of the world such as from war-torn Syria or Afghanistan. They will be moving into rented houses in the areas, the majority of families have a number of children who will be attending schools locally. We will be adaptable to the family’s needs at all times but will focus initially on specific actions to support the family in their new life here:
